SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Onondaga County Comptroller candidate Richard J. Brickwedde announced today that he supports term limits for the offices of County Comptroller and County Executive, proposing no more than two consecutive terms. Brickwedde stated, “We have had only two County Executives since 1961 and only a few County Comptrollers.”  He noted that local term limits have been adopted across the country, affording communities better citizen representation and less focus on special interests.

Brickwedde believes that incumbents have too many advantages over challengers. “Fresh blood brings fresh ideas.  Now is an ideal time to pass such laws when there is no incumbent running for either top office,”
Brickewedde said.  He stated that he has no position with regard to the County Legislature since the legislature has shorter terms and the dynamics are different.

Brickwedde vows to raise the visibility of the Comptroller’s office and bring transparency to County government, pledging full disclosure to the taxpayers of Onondaga County.  Brickwedde said, “When the public knows what is going on, the public is in a better position to demand accountability.  When we have public accountability, costs go down, we lose less money, efficiency goes up and all the taxpayers benefit either by reduced taxes, more efficient service, or both.”

Richard J. Brickwedde is a local attorney with experience in the public and private sector at the federal, state, and local levels.  He is endorsed by the Democratic Party and the Veterans’ Party.  For more information about his campaign, please visit his website www.brickwedde.org.
