Brickwedde Announces Candidacy Print E-mail

For Release:   August 22, 2007

Declaring we deserve full disclosure of County audits, local attorney Richard J. Brickwedde announced his candidacy for Onondaga County Comptroller today. Brickwedde, a Democrat, has also been endorsed by the Veteran’s Party. Brickwedde promised, “I will bring independent leadership to the Comptroller’s office. We will have complete candor and full disclosure.”

“Under my administration, all audits will be posted on the County’s website and the results brought to the media’s attention on a regular basis,” Brickwedde said. He added, “I will utilize the Comptroller’s office as a public advocacy office, assuring fiscal responsibility for the benefit of the County’s residents.”  Brickwedde also promised, “We will expand the scope of internal audits to include energy and environmental issues with a goal of making Onondaga County more energy efficient and more environmentally friendly.”

The County Comptroller’s office has 38 employees and a 2007 budget of over 2.6 million dollars ($2,600,000.00). The two primary obligations of the Comptroller’s office are to keep the county’s books and to audit both county programs and external entities that contribute to the county budget, such as the hotel and motel tax. The County’s 2007 budget, including external sources and intra-government payments, is over 1.113 billion dollars ($1,113,000,000.00).

Brickwedde said, “Anyone who knows me knows that I will be an independent watchdog for the taxpayers of Onondaga County. When you look at my experience in the public and private sector at the federal, state, and local levels, and my involvement in community service organizations, you know I will have a commitment to serving the County as Comptroller.”

Brickwedde graduated from Syracuse University in 3-1/2 years with an academic background in economics, including management accounting, and completed New York State’s Managing New York Level One program, which was an intensive public administration program for mid-level New York State managers. He holds a law degree from Fordham University.

Brickwedde is married to June Brickwedde, a retired Syracuse City School Social Studies teacher. He has three grown stepdaughters and four grandchildren.

Brickwedde’s law office is located at One Park Place, 300 South State Street, Suite 400, Syracuse, New York 13202-2060.

For Release August 22, 2007.  A press conference will be held at 10 am at 300 S. State St., Ste 400, Syracuse, NY.
